School of Light Chemistry and Food Science



School of Light Chemistry and Food Science (LCFS) of South China University of Technology, supported by Ministry of Education and Guangdong Province, is the significant national base for teaching and research. It has 3 post-doctoral stations, 1 national key laboratory, 1 national research center of engineering, 1 engineering center of Ministry of Education, 1 provincial key laboratory of Guangdong department of education, 1 national first-grade discipline, 1 national second-grade discipline, 2 provincial top-ranking discipline of Guangdong. It has a complete education system for producing undergraduates, graduates of master's and doctoral programs and post-doctoral researchers. It offers 4 undergraduate programs, 8 master's degree programs, and 8 Ph.D. programs. In 2004, its "Light Chemistry Technology and Engineering" was honored top-ranking discipline in China.
 
LCFS boasts of a good number of famous scientists and professors. There are 192 faculty and staff members, among whom 44 are professors (33 doctoral advisors) including 1 academician of Academy of Engineering, 1 Russian academician, 1 academician of Australian Academy of Science, 3 professors of Cheung Kong Scholars, 3 professors of Pearl River Scholars, and 3 scholars included in the "Program for New Century Excellent Talents" by the ministry of education, more than 70% of whom bear Ph.D. At present, there are 934 undergraduates, and 622 master's and doctor's degrees candidates.
 
LCFS is one of the key schools under "Project 211" and "Program 985" by the ministry of education. The school has laboratories of 14,000 square meters floor space and equipment worth more than 200 million Yuan (RMB). The students in LCFS can participate in the university’s research projects and also can use the equipment to take part in the school's creative and practical research plans to improve their creativity and practical ability.
 
In order to enroll more excellent students and to inspire their students to study hard, and to help students with financial difficulties, the School has established various scholarships and organize them to intern in famous enterprises at home and abroad in vacations. LCFS has become an important base for training talents, many of whom are now the backbones in the field of light chemistry and food engineering. The School will continue to give priority to education and research with a view to making even more contributions to our country's development.
